How to play beer pong

2024 Updated Canadian Beer Pong Rules

2024 Updated Canadian Beer Pong Rules

SUPPLIES:

  1. TABLE: 8ft table

  2. CUPS: 10 cups per side (20 total)

  3. BALLS: Two ping pong balls.

SETUP:

  1. Arrange 10 cups in a pyramid shape at each end of the table.
  2. Fill each cup water

DECIDING WHO GOES FIRST: The first game is decided by the two teams going “eye to eye.” One player from each team gets a ball and shoots towards the opposite side while maintaining eye contact with the opposing shooter throughout the entire shot. The first team to make it goes first. If both players miss, or both make it, their teammates now shoot.

(We understand that some people believe beer is what you fill your cups with... but after the covid pandemic we at Dorm Dolphin believe that was sort of.. gross. Drink out of your individual beverage of choice after each cup.)

FINAL OBJECTIVE:

  • The goal is to throw a ping pong ball into the opposing team's cups. When a ball lands in a cup, the cup is removed from the table. The game continues until one team has no remaining cups.

BASIC  RULES:

  1. TURNS: Teams take turns throwing one ball per turn. Both team members throw one ball each turn.

  2. SHOOTING: Players can either throw the ball directly into the cups or bounce it. If a ball is bounced, the opposing team can swat it away, but if it lands, it counts for two cups.

  3. RE-RACK: Each team is allowed one or two re-racks per game, where they can request the cups to be rearranged into a tighter formation.

  4. ELBOWS!: Players must keep their elbows behind the edge of the table when throwing.

  5. DEFENCE: Players can only defend the ball if it is a bounce shot.

OUR HOUSE RULES:

  1. BALLS BACK: If both players make their shots, they get the balls back for another turn (a.k.a. "balls back").

  2. DEATH CUP: If a ball lands in a cup that is currently being drunk (held in a player's hand), the game ends immediately, and the team that hit the cup wins.

  3. ISLAND: If a single cup is isolated from the others, a player can call "island" and aim for it. If successful, the opposing team removes either ALL of the other cups OR depending how you choose to play you may choose to take away 3 cups.

  4. REDEMPTION: If the opposing team gets your last cup, one of the players on your team MUST sink a ball or the opposing team wins. You may NOT call "Airball" on last cup.

  5. TRICKSHOT: If your ball doesn't go in and it rolls back to you, then you are entitled a trickshot *It cannot touch the floor*, if you hit the trick shot then that is 2 cups gone instead of 1.

SAFETY NOTE:

  • Always play responsibly. Players should not be pressured into drinking more than they are comfortable with, and non-alcoholic beverages can be used as a substitute.
